Procrastination

Some of us continue to be procrastinators even after extensive self-help techniques like time management, list making or positive self-talk. Some of us think if we berate ourselves enough we will quit procrastinating. We aren’t destined to always be procrastinators, it’s not genetic. It’s a learned response and we can unlearn it.

First of all we need to take a closer look at why we are procrastinating.

Some reasons for procrastination:

  • Overwhelmed with too many tasks and can’t prioritize
  • Task seems too daunting, unpleasant, or complicated
  • Fear of failure

If you feel overwhelmed with too many tasks, try to avoid task overload. Write down the top 2 or 3 that are most urgent. Write the pros and cons of doing and not doing them. Get clear on your intention. Sometimes the act of accomplishing just one task by lunch time will be the inspiration for being productive the rest of the day.

With some tasks, you don’t know where to begin. Imagine the desired end result and how good that makes you feel. What would be the first step to take in that direction? If you just can’t seem to get inspired and it’s not something that needs attention immediately, sleep on it (one night only). Lots of times the first step that feels right will be obvious in the morning!

If your procrastination is because you’re indecisive, there comes a point where you have to make a decision. It’s also advantageous to be proactive instead of reactive. Don’t wait until the roof caves in to fix the leak.

You may think you do better under pressure and put off doing things until it’s down to the wire. In actuality you probably don’t do better and are also putting unnecessary stress on yourself that can be damaging over time.

Do you set unrealistic goals that aren’t achievable? You don’t have to be perfect. If you can reach 75% of your goals in lots of cases you may be highly successful.

The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson is an excellent book to help you learn how to finally get moving and productive. You might have to face the fact that the tasks you are doing now may not show results immediately but consistent small tasks over time will yield results.

I had been known to procrastinate with doing tasks to build my business. There were several reasons for this, the main one being distractions. Applying what I learned in The Slight Edge and partnering up with a team member (for support and accountability) in my mastermind group for 90 days was what got me going in the right direction and the momentum growing.

Time is either moving for you or against you. You may not see the repercussions now of procrastinating or making bad choices, but compounded over time the results can be disastrous.

Why not make the effort to do the small consistent tasks that will move you in a positive direction instead of negative.

Life is short, we only have a short time to make a big impact in this life. Look how much more rich life will be when you focus on what you can do and stop making excuses. Let’s look forward instead of looking back and reap the rewards from tasks well done.

Would you like to own your life?

You probably came online thinking if you found a good product to sell you would be well on your way to owning your life. Did you find out quickly that it isn’t that simple?

Maybe if you find the perfect Way to market your product, it will sell and you can then own your life. Hmmm, well now you’re getting your product in front of a lot of people, why aren’t they buying?

In your continued journey to find a solution you learn that “attraction marketing” is the way to go. If you target people that are interested in your product and they come to you, now they will buy and you can then own your life.

Okay, your bank account is still on “E”, or worse, maybe you’re in the red because now you’ve got all this credit card debt to pay. This is not good.

That was where I was for the longest time. I was so frustrated and didn’t know what I was doing wrong. I was still flailing around trying to learn “secret” marketing strategies when a mentor clued me into something vital.

If you have an “agenda” people will run the other way. They can smell it a mile away. Now, I know that people come online looking for a solution to a problem, but they usually only buy from people they Trust.

How do you build that trust? The best way is to speak to them by phone and I don’t mean cold calling leads. They will most likely think – “Wow, they called me and was interested in me!” When you take the focus off of you and what you want and make it about them, great things will happen.

Better yet, if you can speak their “language” (and I mean based on their personality type) then you will really be able to connect with them. It is not about manipulation but instead finding out about them, their needs and genuinely helping them, even if there’s no monetary gain.

If you aren’t able to speak to them in person or by phone then you will need to build trust in other ways. You can give them “value” instead of a sales pitch. Know who you are “talking” to and give them value for free. I get so much value through my mastermind group that there’s always something good to share that will help them.

I learned all of these skills and more for free and they are worth their weight in gold. At first I thought it might be difficult to make this shift in my thinking and my approach with others but it wasn’t. To finally get a positive response from others was all it took for me to see what a dramatic difference it makes.

If you are willing to put your agenda aside and learn how to finally own your life it all starts here: FREE TRAINING

Applied Knowledge + Focus = Success

How big is your collection of books, tapes, and courses that you invested in only to put them away and never look back? Did you actually apply much of what you learned? You may have found that what you bought into wasn’t easy to apply, or didn’t seem to work at all. Or you had good intentions to apply the principles but never really got started because you lost your focus.

A lot of people say that knowledge is power. I don’t believe that. The power only comes from applied knowledge with true focus. Don Standard shares how he learned this concept through Success In Ten Steps.

Don Standard

“I knew I was onto something big. From my experience, I knew the people at Mentoring For Free were telling the truth about MLM. That was good, after 25 years of failure and frustration. I used the information from the calls to evaluate network marketing companies. I googled people using the Mentoring For Free system. I found companies they may have been in and/or previous companies. I added all the other companies I knew and started evaluating.”

“Still … could I be successful at network marketing? I joined the company. I plugged into the Mentoring For Free system and got some leads. Mostly I just watched and listened. Finally, I was ready to go for it. And it worked. I grew my business fast. I sponsored as many people in a month or so as I used to sponsor in a year.”

“And they didn’t quit. I plugged them into Mentoring For Free and helped get them started. We were a team, all using the system. People just like me who had experienced failure and frustration for years were now successful.”

“The Mentoring For Free system changed my life and the lives of people on my team. Now I grow my business easily and consistently. Network Marketing is fun. Just the way it really should be.”

Are you ready to understand the power of focus? Are you ready to plug into some of the most cutting edge training that isn’t being taught by most of the leaders in the industry yet is causing those who apply this knowledge to reach new levels of success? Have you noticed that certain beliefs are passed down from one generation to the next?

If your father is a “Ford Man” then there’s a big chance that you will probably be partial to Ford vehicles yourself.

If there is a belief from your parents that “money is the root of all evil” then there’s a big chance you will hold that belief also. This belief may keep you from achieving prosperity no matter what you do.

Do you realize that we are primarily made up of other peoples beliefs? Maybe that belief about how we raise our children is actually a belief that came from our parents who got them from their parents and so on.

I have used several parent examples but we are influenced by all kinds of people and situations throughout our life and probably most beliefs were instilled in us when we were young and impressionable.

I would like to think that I was one that could “think for herself”, but in reality I’ve had to admit as an adult, I came ready-made with a lot of preconceived ideas from – um, I’m not so sure. And some of those beliefs did not serve me well at all!

Until you challenge those beliefs how do you know they “belong” to you? They may – or they may not.

How do you get clarity about what fits you as an individual?

Isn’t it time that you took a closer look at yourself? Are you still struggling with achieving your goals? Maybe you need to shed a belief that you are holding onto, maybe even unconsciously. Recognizing this is the first step to becoming the person you were meant to be, and that is a great feeling.

You can also apply this as you’re looking at “opportunities” in pursuit of owning your own home business. If you don’t know what to look for in a critical way you may find yourself just going along with the “hype” or believing what you are told by the company or your upline, which can be a “slippery slope”.

Want to know how to critically evaluate any company? Read this little gem of a book at http://www.freemlmtruth.com/ebook

so… don’t take my word for it, look at it critically and see if it makes sense to you!

Tomatoes – Oh the Tomatoes!

Anyone growing a garden this year?

We planted a small one but went a little overboard with the tomatoes. We are overflowing with tomatoes. I wish I had payed more attention to my Granny’s canning.

Network Marketing is like gardening. You have to seed before you harvest. It takes time for that seed to grow. But with cultivation, care, rain, and sunshine there will be a harvest.

Cindy Loewen is a grain farmer in Manitoba. She’s raised a family and saw drought and plenty of hard work in her life. So it wasn’t a huge shock when she discovered that M-L-M success isn’t easy. But she made a commitment, and she is working on the dream. Read her story here: Cindy’s Story

Remember Those Paint-by-Number Kits?

Remember those “Paint by Number” kits as a child? I used to love those things. I had an easy pattern to follow. All I had to do was paint in the color it told me inside the lines of the picture. When I was done I would have a “beautiful” oil painting of my favorite scenes. I might chuckle today if I saw one of my finished paintings from back then but I actually felt like an artist.

Marketing is a lot like that. Without a blueprint to follow you might feel lost and not know what to put where. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a nice “paint by number” marketing kit to use to know exactly how to get from A to Z?

My group is part of a pretty good-size network marketing company. Our team uses the “Success in 10 Steps” eBook by Michael Dlouhy to find prospects. This is the perfect “paint by number” marketing kit. In 2009, our team growth was phenomenal. Our team brought in 62% of the company’s new business for the month of April. – 82% of the company’s new business for May. – 85% of the company’s new business for June.

That trend continues to today and we stay in the top 3 of our company’s growth. Look, “Success in 10 Steps” is generic. No companies or products are mentioned. No affiliate links are included. The point of the ebook is to find the Warriors in M-L-M, and to help you connect with them.

This is a very effective system. I strongly recommend you download the ebook and see for yourself. If you haven’t yet downloaded the ebook, you can get it here:

Doesn’t that exhaust you just thinking about it? Not to mention the anxiety and frustration that goes along with being rejected by all those no’s just to get one yes from a prospect. And there are plenty of prospects that won’t tell you yes or no and you can spend a lot of time and energy trying to follow up with them. At the end of the day all those no’s make it pretty difficult to stay positive and motivated.

You may have been given a script or training on how to use manipulative language to close the sale. Did you feel comfortable using that script? – I didn’t. If you aren’t seeing the same results your guru upline is having they may tell you “You aren’t talking to enough people.” or “You will get better if you just keep buying more leads.” Maybe they contribute part of your lack of success to the fact that you didn’t make it to the company convention. Maybe your belief just isn’t strong enough.

After some intensive research that spanned over 2 years, Michael Dlouhy, the author of “Success In 10 Steps” figured out what was going on in the MLM industry and it wasn’t pretty. He also discovered what did work. He was lucky enough to seek out an amazing mentor early on. What Michael learned from his mentor and his extensive research propelled him quickly up the ranks to the top of his five pillar company and his team is enjoying the same amazing success today. And I can assure you it doesn’t involve any of the “recruiting” tactics mentioned above.

Michael Dlouhy knew that lots of people could benefit from what he had learned. In fact he felt it was his duty to get this knowledge out to as many people as he could so they wouldn’t be “victimized” any longer. He also knew that this knowledge would be discredited by many “leaders” in the industry because frankly it was exposing many ugly truths. But that didn’t deter Michael.

Michael’s book “Success In 10 Steps” can literally save you years of failure and frustration in multi-level marketing. This is not about getting you into a “deal”. It is about getting you trained so you can think for yourself. You won’t see any affiliate links or manipulative sales jargon here, just the facts.

Once you discover the truth, you will never look back.

Now I know you could argue that an entrepreneur is also an opportunity seeker but let me explain the differences from my point of view.

Most Opportunity Seekers come online looking for a quick way to make a buck. They are lured in by the “get rich quick schemes”. They are quick to jump to the next shiny object they see when their current “opportunity” isn’t working out. If it involves work, they quickly “abandon ship”. They keep falling for the hype and spending tons of money with nothing to show for it. They become bitter and jaded and are probably a big reason that “online business” has such a bad name. (Besides the crooks running their schemes)

But…

Real entrepreneurs know that to build a successful business they must make a serious commitment and most assuredly many sacrifices to see their business grow.

Real entrepreneurs set goals to strive for and don’t let distractions get in their way.

Real entrepreneurs know that a positive mindset is crucial and spend time on their personal development.

Real entrepreneurs model themselves after leaders and follow a proven system. Re-inventing the wheel is not recommended (most of the time).

…and successful entrepreneurs know that the rewards are returned to them ten-fold when they give more in “user value” than they ask for in dollars.

I have to admit – I fell for a few “questionable opportunities” in my many years online. I always knew I had entrepreneurial blood flowing in my veins (I’m proud to say).  Once I became seriously committed to my goals, put my blinders on, and found the right mastermind group with a proven system, I can honestly say I am a true entrepreneur!

What about you?

The post below is from my friend and mentor Michael Dlouhy. If anyone knows what it takes to be an effective leader, he does.

“When a great leader falls because of a lack of integrity, it is
very painful for all involved. Tearing another person down to
build yourself up, only leads to a false impression of yourself.

When someone is tearing others down in front of You this is
a guarantee they will do the same to You behind Your back.
Ultimately you will crash and burn from your lack of character.

The question is:

Would You Want This Person As Your Sponsor ?

Life can give us challenges in many areas of our life. How we
handle those challenges ourselves and who helps us, can
determine our success or failure. Loyalty to do the right thing
enters into all decisions. Friendships built on loyalty and trust
are like support beams for a foundation.

A foundation is the beginning. This applies to your marriage,
your friendships, your home and your business. If you build
them correctly, they will sustain you your lifetime. If you
build carelessly everything will crumble around you.

Leaders are built. Day by day, Lesson by lesson. When a
leader chooses to fall, they sacrifice their integrity, their
honor and their character.

If after knowing the facts and fully utilizing their “critical
thinking skills” when someone decides to leave Your Team
please wish them all the best.

Excerpt from “Launching a Leadership Revolution”
Foundational Leadership Quality: Honorable

Integrity can be considered as the condition of “not doing
what’s wrong.” Character can be defined as doing the right
things, for the mere reason that it is the right thing, even if
that thing is difficult and unpopular.

The two sewn together make honor. Author Jeff O’Leary,
in The Centurion Principles, writes, ” ‘Honor’ encompasses
the virtues of integrity and honesty, self-denial, loyalty, and
a servant’s humility to those in authority above as well as a
just and merciful heart to those below.”

Honor is such a rarely used word in our times that it seems
a little old-fashioned. But living a life of integrity and character
is timeless and, for a leader, absolutely necessary. It’s about
choices, and a person’s choices in life follow him to the grave.

Is this to say that a person needs to be perfect to become a
leader? Of course not. Perfection in this life is not possible,
and we, the authors, are certainly not exceptions. However,
a leader must strive continually toward perfection even though
she knows she can never exactly attain it.

It is a question of the heart. The most effective leaders through
out history have led with their hearts, in trust, and with honor.
If a leader cuts corners, misuses people, or misrepresents, the
truth, a time bomb begins ticking. Someday, somewhere, the
bomb will go off. It is obvious in our times only too often: public
figures at the pinnacles of power and fame crash and burn in
the cloud of self-inflicted shame. From political scandals to
high-profile corporate frauds, these calamities are brought
on by a lack of honor in the leadership.

“Human happiness and moral duty are inseparably connected.”

The difference between leaders we revile and those we praise
is their individual level of honor. In fact, honor is the force that
holds a leader’s hunger in check.

Without honor, hunger runs rampant and ultimately serves
only selfish interests. Honor is the component that makes
hunger productive for the leader’s fellow man. In fact, what
we are basically describing here is another “old-fashioned”
word: duty.

George Washington said of duty, “Human happiness and
moral duty are inseparably connected.” So leadership is
spawned by hunger and held in check by honor.

Under that combination, leaders will find happiness in the
fulfillment of their duty to others. It has been said that the
character of a man is the only thing that will walk back
from the grave into the hearts of the people who knew him.

That is the legacy of a leader. The words a leader say and
the walk a leader walks must match. As the saying goes,
“Your word is your worth and your worth is your word.”

Andy Stanley, author of The Next Generation Leader, says,
“To become a leader worth following you must give time and
attention to the inner man.

To leave a legacy that goes beyond accomplishment alone,
a leader must devote himself to matters of the heart.”
Character is developed in the valleys and the peaks of life,
enabling a person to overcome obstacles and deal with
success.

Abraham Lincoln observed, “Nearly all men can handle
adversity, but if you really want to test a man’s character -
give him power.” Character connects a person to what is
right and true.

If reputation is what others think of you, then character is
what God knows about you. This concept of honor is so
important to a leader because people will follow a leader
only as far as they feel they can trust him.

People will not follow a leader they can’t trust. According
to R. Ruth Barton, “We set young leaders up for a fall if
we encourage them to envision what they can do before
they consider the kind of person they should be.

” Warren Bennis tells us, “In the leadership arena,
character counts. I am not saying this casually, of studies,
observations, and interviews with leaders and with the
people near them…. I’ve never seen a person derailed
from [leadership] positions for lack of technical competence.

But I’ve seen lots of people derailed for lack of judgment
and character.” And, as Heraclitus said, “Man’s character
is his fate.” Finally, it should be remembered that a major
component of honor is personal courage.

Without the courage to do what’s right because it’s right,
regardless of ramifications to self, one is not truly worthy
to be called a leader.

When people don’t “Believe” they deserve Success they
will self destruct every time…. This is the reason we tell
everyone we meet to “Participate” in the 30 Day Mental
Cleanse if You want to own Your life.”
